LYRICAL & CONTEMPORARY

Express yourself through movement.

Contemporary and lyrical dance bridge the gap between jazz and ballet, offering a fluid movement style that works on technique, flexibility and strength.

Lyrical gives the dancer the opportunity to perform choreography that is created to complement the lyrics to the music being used. Stressing versatility and improvisation, contemporary allows a dancer who ‘knows the rules’ to ‘break the rules’. These two styles are often paired together as they both share emotive storylines, encouraging students to express themselves through movements.

Because lyrical/contemporary has such a strong foundation in ballet, enrollment in a ballet class is required. Taking a jazz class is strongly recommended.
